So, I checked my bank balance this morning and I can’t deny the reality of the situation any longer, I’ve overdone it. Eating out, travelling, drinking and perhaps Wednesday’s shopping trip to Westfield has not helped the banking situation. I think the only thing left to do is live off porridge (cheapest staple ingredient I can think of) and chain myself to my bed. Hmm, unlikely. But, in my defence, it has been one of my best weeks to date.
On Monday, I ACTUALLY stayed in! And did a lot of business stuff, I’ve decided that when I return from Italy, I’m going to start a supper club. I hope your interest is sparked already! I’m hoping that I’ll become a guru of Italian cuisine during my travels so I’ll be able to offer Britain’s best pasta, risotto, pizza…. in the comforts of my home, to the “scary” public! I’ll keep you updated with Supper Club developments. The rest of the week was possibly a little too social for both my stomach and my bank balance though. On Tuesday I visited Sartori as it’s in many top ten lists for serving the best pizza in London. I wouldn’t personally agree but feel free to give it a read here!
Wednesday was a luxury day for me as I was taken out twice. I went to Desperados in Angel for lunch with an old Vodafone colleague, review coming shortly but in short, I wasn’t overly impressed. But Wednesday evening’s drinks and food more than made up for lunch. Andrew took me to Benihana, an interactive Japanese teppayaki restaurant, it’s somewhere I’ve wanted to visit for a while. It gave me a few ideas for MYO, but mainly sent me away with the intent to serve food that’s equally as good, or better than the ‘show/entertainment’ that gets served with it. The evening was topped off by visiting the Ritz! I’d dreamed about going for a long time so was incredibly excited. And, wow did it meet my expectations! We had two cocktails each which I enjoyed substantially, despite knocking over £10 worth of the second one. Anyway, read my review for the evening here!
In case you’re thinking it’s been pretty quiet on the recipe front, I did make a gluten free pizza this week but it was so terrible that I refuse to share the recipe, or the pictures. I’ll try again next week though. I met up with another Vodafone friend on Thursday evening and was introduced to a very cool ‘Speakeasy’ type bar called Lounge Bohemia, and was convinced to give Dalston another attempt as Scott told me it was way better at night-time. He was right, it looked livelier and surprisingly, given that it was dark, safer. We tried pizza at Voodoo Ray’s which I’ve written a review for here.
Sara and I had a night on the town on Friday night, which was, as predicted a bit of a messy affair, resulting in me waking up on Saturday morning feeling pretty horrific. I also had to get through a 12-6 shift, and my last shift at that! I can’t believe my time at the Village has actually come to an end! I’m actually quite sad about it, it’s felt so much like a big family being here and living in London has been such fun.
On Saturday evening, I visited a few places in Angel – it’s definitely turning into one of my favourite areas in London. I went to Cuba Libre for a cocktail and some amazing black ink squid and then Pix for a few miniature tapas and Cava. And, that’s about it – right now I’m feeling pretty satisfied after a delicious home-made (well jar-made) chicken and vegetable Balti. Now, to resist the chocolate!
So, next week… what’s on the cards? I’m going home for one! I need to organise a lot for Italy so I thought going home, getting sorted and potentially saving a lot of money is probably the best idea. Oh, I suppose I’ll also have to get cracking on the gluten free pizza dough!
