Another week into my immensely glamourous (haha, really not!) London life and I’m realising why London has been given the “prize” for being the most expensive place to live in the world. Everything from the tube, to pizza tasting, to drinking (largely) adds up and I’m definitely spending more than I’m earning and something needs to change. I’ve had a pretty good week, although, after my stint as ‘manager’ over the weekend, I’ve let myself become a little lazy on the shadowing Ben/learning new tricks front. I should probably get back on that this week.
Saying that, we did do some ‘competitor research’ at a local competitor pub, and annoyingly quite liked the food. I had potted shrimp and then the stem ginger steamed sponge with cardamom custard, but the atmosphere was just non-existent so we concluded that the Village Inn wins. I also found a new social media manager (!), little Matt, who set up every single social media site going for MYO. Give them a search! Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, so yep I’ve officially entered the modern world, now a lesson in how to use it I think…
I ate VERY well this week, when I say this I mean in reality, probably very badly for my waistline… I was spoilt in terms of meals in, meals out and the yummiest titbits from our trip to Costco. B-Soho and Yard offered slightly disappointing pizzas but they were made up for by all the other scrummy places I ate at following (reviews to follow). It’s becoming standard now I know, but I also drank far too much. I don’t understand how everyone in the hospitality industry aren’t alcoholics, as I don’t think I’ve ever drank so much in my life as I have in the past few weeks. So much for that New Year’s resolution! Ah well, it’s Monday tomorrow – I guess I can start my new week’s resolution then. May as well have another glass tonight in that case! I should probably think about getting on some healthy eating plan too. Go the whole hog I suppose – maybe the effects of Insanity might actually start to show then too!
Cooking wise, I tried out Delia’s pizza recipe, which you can read about here. In short, the search definitely continues! On a more impressive note, Matt made a couple of amazing cakes. An X-Box and Darth Vader. See, I’m all about taste over aesthetics and I’d get bored spending hours icing a cake, despite the overall effect being absolutely amazing (in Matt’s case). And, there’s no way I would end up with these results:
So plans for this week – I’m going home! Phew, I need new clothes desperately and I need to get on with my financials ahead of my first investor-entrepreneur meeting next week, eek!
