Pizza Loco, Galtres Festival – Yorkshire

Service:3 Stars (3 / 5)
Value for money:3 Stars (3 / 5)
Pizza:4 Stars (4 / 5)

It was forecasted to be a scorching August bank holiday and with me just having broken up with a boyfriend, I was feeling a little sad at the prospect of having nobody to share the weekend with. So, I was only too happy when Ben – a friend, very much like me in the foodie stakes, offered me a free ticket to the Galtres Festival, in Yorkshire. I’m not big into festivals at all, I hate the queuing, I hate those idiots who throw pints of urine on you during an act, but most of all I hate camping. Trudging through the mud in the dark, to get to a pretty disgusting portaloo, which in my case happens on a regular basis is in no definition, my idea of fun. However, I was lured in by the fine wine and dining aspect of the festival, and the focus on local rock bands. I love rock, and I love supporting local acts, so I was sold and began the long journey to Yorkshire.

And I wasn’t disappointed – on the fine dining stakes, Galtres definitely delivered! There were too many options to know where to start, but luckily we spotted Pizza Loco after a quick browse of all the stalls. Pizza Loco has been recommended in numerous guides for serving some of the best mobile pizza, but it was the steam-engine type van that drew us in immediately. For take away pizzas, it was quite expensive – £7 was the standard price, but then it was almost justified, as they were using a fully authentic wood fired oven and you could see it all being made in front of you. And, the toppings were pretty exciting.

We chose pear, gorgonzola and pine nuts. The bases had all been made in advance, and were splayed out all over the van. The toppings were just right in terms of generosity and complimented each other perfectly. The pizza took 4-5 minutes to cook and was served on a big paper plate, with choices of oils to drizzle on top. We went for a garlic and chilli oil and sat on a hay bale, with our 10% cider to eat. It was delicious – it was soft, yet crispy and incredibly moreish. The toppings were delicious and I could have easily devoured the whole thing. Oh, and guess what?! It rained. So much for the ‘scorcher’ of a weekend!

Recommendation: 4 Stars (4 / 5)

I’d definitely recommend this pizza, although am unlikely to ever buy one by myself as it is pretty expensive for what you get, and I may have been more of a fan because Ben paid so I hadn’t considered how expensive it was?
