We stumbled across Beard to Tail during a frantic search for food. It’s surprising how few places serve food when you’re looking for it! I should probably add by this point that desperation meant we were pretty much prepared to eat anywhere so we didn’t spend long assessing the exterior or appeal of the place.
At 8pm, it was heaving – it had that brilliant buzz and the music was loud but at the perfect level that you didn’t need to shout over it. We chose to sit at the bar as we were only going for a few nibbles and a quick drink. Unfortunately you can’t get the restaurant menu if you’re sitting at the bar, but there were four options written up on a nearby board which I chose two from.
Whilst waiting, I chose half a pint of Brooklyn Lager to sip on (I don’t know where this sudden like for beer/lager has come from!) and was kept entertained by the bar man’s flaring. Ten minutes later, I was presented with some polenta fries and pork belly with baby gem lettuce. The presentation of both dishes were really impressive. I’d never had polenta fries before but it worked well. The belly pork didn’t quite live up to the success of the fries though, it was white in the middle which usually implies it’s going to be dry and sure enough, it was. All in all, £16 wasn’t bad for two drinks and 2 dishes so we left a LOT more satisfied than Giant Robot.

NTK: If you want to give the food a go, make sure you eat in the restaurant and not at the bar. Also spirits are expensive, so be prepared!
